Where Premier League Goals Are Scored

Over the early part of the 2014-15 season myself and young son recorded the areas of the pitch from which goals where scored in the Premier League.

We broke it down to first time finishes (X-RED), two touch finishes(X-BLUE), a dribble (more than two touches- D-YELLOW) and headers (H-White), as well as own goals (O-BLACK) and penalties (Figure on spot).

It is something I’ve completed in the past many times and helps my thought process in devising coaching sessions to support players and also from a goalkeeper perspective assist in the understanding of the game.

I would like to ask, What do you as coaches understand by the findings? How would you use the data in your environment if you coach/ed a Premier League team?

Why don’t you try it in your league or other leagues, how does it differ or compare?

I would be interested to hear from you and share your thoughts.
