Server can deliver hand service from three separate points (S1, S2, S3) S1 relates to a high catch from a straight/soft angled ball, while S2 & S3 involves the recreation of a ball delivered from wide areas. Goalkeepers can work on 4-6 reps and 2-4 sets, dependent on age, ability and numbers within a group.

Key Points would relate to a realistic starting position of the Goalkeeper for a delivery in a game, body position of the Goalkeeper related to the ball and outfield player, the assessment of the ball when played, appropriate foot work for positioning, communication & decision to catch or punch at the highest point using the correct technique.

Technical Practice To Catch A High Ball To The Far Post

Server (S) is positioned at a Central Point. The Goalkeeper makes a slight forward movement to touch the ball with their hands before making a lateral/backwards movement to catch a high ball beyond the far post.

Goalkeepers can work on 4-6 reps dependent on age, ability, numbers and session aims, with 2-3 sets repeated each side.

Key Points would follow the previous practices (High Balls To Central Areas) with the main focus on the correct foot work to get in a position quickly to either catch, punch, or deflect the ball at the far post.
